The Pursuit 5000m

We're delighted to introduce you to The Pursuit 5000. A new World Athletics Continental Challenger event hosted by Stride Athletics and The Monument Mile Classic. 

Taking place on Saturday 4th July at Stirling University Track, the event will be home to multiple 5000m time graded heats along with invitational 800m race for U16, U18 and senior athletes. 

Entries will open at 19:00 on Wednesday 21st January at a cost of £25 per athlete for the 5000m.

Entry Information

The Pursuit is open to athletes looking to run 21 minutes or below for the 5000m. Entrants will be seeded similarly to that of Flat ‘N Fast with heats only being compiled once entries close/sell out. Please note as per SA guidelines only u18 athletes and above are eligible for the 5000m race.

Elite Entries are in place for women who have ran 15:45 or below in the last 18 months and similarly for men who have ran 13:45 or below.

In addition to our 5000m races we also have a handful of 800m races sprinkled throughout the event. Any under 16 and under 18 athletes who wish to note an interest in the event should contact Callum Matthews at [email protected] with their current PB and SB.

Senior athletes looking to race in the 800m should also contact Callum but should note the minimum entry requirement of 1:50 for men and 2:05 for women.

Refund policy

We understand that sometimes you enter a race then something crops up.  As soon as you enter we incur costs so we have come up with the following refund policy that we hope is simple and fair:

  • Before or on the 23rd May 2026: 75% refund
  • 24th May 2026 onwards: No refunds.
     

Anti-Doping

All entrants shall be deemed to have made him/ herself familiar with, and agreed to be bound by the UKA Anti-Doping Rules and to submit to the authority of UK Anti-Doping in the application and enforcement of the Anti-Doping Rules.

The UKA Anti-Doping Rules apply to entrants participating in the sport of Athletics, for 12 months from the date of entry, whether or not the entrant is a citizen of, or resident in, the UK.

Rules

The race will be held under UKA Rules for Competition Incorporating World Athletics Rules effective from 1st April 2022. A copy is available for download from the British Athletics website Competition Rules.

Rule CR18.5 Unsporting or Improper Behaviour: spitting (or similar) in any area may be treated as a conduct offence and will be dealt with by a warning or disqualification. Athletes Assembly stewards will remind athletes of this rule prior to leaving for the competition site. Any instances of athletes spitting within the competition area will be reported to the Chief Official or Referee who will issue the appropriate sanction, which may result in disqualification.

Rule T5: All athletes must make themselves familiar with the recently amended World and UKAthletics rules around shoes. It is the athlete’s responsibility to ensure compliance with these rules. Visual checks will be made at Athlete Assembly, with any suspect shoes reported to the Meeting Manager for investigation.
