This event is for masters’ athletes (anyone aged 35 or over) who have already entered the Chichester 10K at Goodwood, Motor Circuit, Chichester PO18 0PH and wish to compete in the British Masters 10k Road Championships as well. Ambulant athletes welcome.

All UK residents must have a current UKA registration to enter. Overseas visitors without a UKA registration should enter their national team code.

The first step to compete in the BMAF championships is to enter the Chichester 10k itself here.
The Chichester 10K is fast and pretty flat, starting and finishing on the Goodwood motor racing circuit.
All participants receive a fantastic race medal, free runner photography, and finish line goodies
The race entry fee is currently £32 (Late entry fee).

Then enter the BMAF championship by the green button given below, for which the entry fee is as follows:

  • BMAF area club members Free
  • Non-members                 £5

Closing Date for Entries: 28th January or earlier if the race is full
The deadline to have your name featured on your bib number is 7th January

For details of the course see here and for more details of the race refer to the race website here

Start time: 09-30 am

Individual medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each five-year age category from 35 to 100+. Placing for all championship results will be based on chip time, rather than gun time. We have made this decision based on safety and fairness, due to the number of runners competing at the event.  Runners are also eligible for any awards given by the race organisers.

Team entries from UKA clubs are welcome based on their first claim members.  There will be team awards for the first 3 women’s/men’s teams in 10-year age bands of 35-44, 45-54 ... as long as there are two or more teams entered in the age category. Clubs can have multiple teams in each age group based on the first 3 club members in that age group to finish, the second 3 to finish and so.  All teams are eligble to win medals. Anyone competing in a lower age group for a team still competes in their own age group for the purposes of an individual medal. Clubs do not have to declare their teams unless they wish to down-age a club member from an older age group in order to make up a complete team.

Provisional teams for each age group have been prepared based on the natural teams in each age group (coloured green) and athletes with insufficient numbers in their own age group making up a team by down-ageing to the next lower age group (age group coloured yellow) and if you are already shown as being a member of a team (via green/yellow colour) then you do not need to take any further action. The list is shown HERE. However if you wish to change the teams, please contact us with details of the changes.  In particular we wish to have confirmation of the change by those marked as down-aging but flagged with a question mark against the age category to down-age to. Such requests must be submitted in advance: deadline Thursday midday, 29th January.

Newcomers: you can also register with the BMAF for news of British Masters Athletics events and other items of general interest relating to masters athletics.  You can tailor this to match your athletics interests in your "Athlete Profile". Many of the area clubs allow new members to join online such that membership takes effect immediately and you can then avoid paying the supplement.  For both of these options, press the BMAF OpenTrack Home button and follow the steps listed under the heading of "Getting Started".

Results
The results posted on the BMAF website here should be viewed in conjunction with a message from Walter Hill, the BMAF Road Race Secretary:

When I arrived at Goodwood on a very wet morning I anticipated problems with entries to the Masters Championships. To that effect I arranged to be by the help desk and to give out the back numbers.

It was clear that the two-tier entry system had caused confusion and it was decided in the interests of inclusivity and transparency to operate a straight Masters Race. This change had minimal overall impact with the fastest Masters on the day reaching the podium.

The outcome was a very efficient and slick medal presentation, on time with a 95% medal pick up with the sun appearing for the first time in the background .

Can I thank you all for attending in such wet conditions with some of you travelling significant distances .

The outcome was a very competitive race on a fast course.

Walter Hill.
